The Construction Workers Apprenticeship Scheme is a transformative initiative designed to tackle youth unemployment and curb irregular migration in Nigeria. This program, developed under the Pathways to Regular Migration (Japa Regular) Project, focuses on equipping young Nigerians with essential construction skills to enhance their employability and promote sustainable livelihoods.
Program Overview
The Construction Workers Apprenticeship Scheme offers a comprehensive and hands-on training experience in several key construction trades, including:
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Bricklaying
- Electrical Equipment Maintenance Technology
- Welding & Fabrication Technology
- Lifting Equipment Technology (Crane, Forklift, Gantry, etc.)
- Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Gas Installation

Our delivery partner with, Gateway Industrial & Petro-Gas Institute Ogun State Nigeria, is a renowned institution known for its advanced facilities and technical expertise. This collaboration guarantees that the curriculum is relevant and aligned with industry standards, providing participants with the best possible foundation for their careers and ensures that participants receive top-tier training.
Program Objectives
- Skill Development: To provide participants with the practical skills necessary for the construction sector.
- Labor Mobility: To facilitate the movement of skilled labor to regions in need, both locally and internationally.

Key Features
High-Quality Training: Beneficiaries will engage in hands-on training sessions using state-of-the-art equipment and methodologies, guided by seasoned professionals from Gateway Industrial & Petro-Gas Institute.
Certification: There are two different certification levels:
- Professional Diploma Course: This level requires tuition fees and some basic entry qualifications.
- National Skill Qualification Program: This level has no tuition fees and offers flexible entry qualifications.
Duration: Six to Twelve Months
Internship Placements: Through strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, participants will have access to apprenticeship programs and job placements, gaining invaluable practical experience.
Support Services: CYID will integrate its “Take Charge, Own, and Rebuild Your Life\” training manual and the 11th Edition of ‘Owning Your Future’ business training manual into the apprenticeship scheme. This will be done through training workshops and mentorship programs to help beneficiaries develop essential soft skills and resilience for their future careers.
Migration Awareness: The program will include modules on migration awareness and legal pathways, empowering participants with the knowledge to make informed and safe migration decisions.
Beneficiary Responsibilities: Where full sponsorship funding is available, participants will be sponsored. Otherwise, they are expected to cover their daily upkeep during the training period to ensure their commitment and focus on the program.
